Denise Holden's life is a fragile mix of luck and hard work. A singlemom of a speech-delayed son, Denise makes ends meet by moving to the small townof Edenton, North Carolina, and working the late shift as a waitress. WhenDenise crashes her car and her son Kyle flees the accident and disappears intothe storm, her only stroke of luck is the quick arrival of Taylor McAden, avolunteer fireman. Taylor's got a knack for fixing people, and he can't helpwanting to be involved with Denise beyond the initial rescue of Kyle.As Taylor helps Denise recover from the accident and get to know the town, theydiscover a sweet bond and a magical chemistry that pulls them closer and closer.Though Taylor fits perfectly into Denise's family, he's unable to open his heartto being loved by her. As Taylor struggles to understand his conflictingdesires, Denise questions the wisdom of gambling with Kyle's and her ownemotions.Author Nicholas Sparks has found a loyal audience for his stories about theinternal battles that accompany the arrival of love. His heroes may betruck-driving manly men and his heroines emotional swamis, but it's easy tooverlook the traditional roles when the complexities of human relationships areso beautifully described. Sparks has found his forte, and this novel is sure tobe as popular as his earlier works. --Nancy R.E. O'Brien

Customer Rating: Summary: AWSOME Comment: This is a really good mystery love story..Every charactor has a story..Hard to put down once you start...How one person can make a difference in a childs life...
Customer Rating: Summary: Sparks does it again Comment: I've read several Sparks books and this one is one of the better ones. In typical Sparks fashion, love is not worth having if there isn't a little pain in the process. Sounds bad but is apparent in all the Sparks novels I've read thus far. This one is no exception. Denise is a mother of a child with a mis-categorized learning disability. Sparks does an excellent job of developing her character and giving the reader enough insight to understand the conflict a mother of a child with a learning disability faces. You feel her determination, patience, and want her to have the chance to experience more in life. Taylor comes to the rescue in the beginning when her son is lost in a car accident. A relationship begins to develop both between Taylor and Denise and between Taylor and Kyle, Denise's son. Taylor, as with all other relationships, begins to distance himself when things start to get serious. The question then becomes, is Denise the one who can rescue Taylor? This is a beautiful story of love, patience, understanding, forgiveness and second chances.
Customer Rating: Summary: What a rescue Comment: I really enjoyed reading this book. Nicholas Sparks has done it again! The story starts out with a single mother named Denise is driving through this hellious storm with her 4 year old son Klye in the back seat. She nearly hits a deer and crashes her car. When she comes to, Denise learns that her son, had escaped. Volunter Fire fighter Taylor, comes to the rescue and finds her son.
They run into each other a few other times and they decided to start dating. Taylor and Denise then start to fall for each other. Once they really deep,Denise learns that Taylor starting to drift away. She doesn't understand why.
Theme of the book is that don't be afraid to love someone. If you do then you will be alone for the rest of your life. I think this theme is so true.
I really recommend this book!
